As I was sitting in church this morning listening to Bro. Dan give another great sermon I thought about the many things he was saying. About how in Luke 1:57 Elizabeth gave birth to her son, then in verse 59 on the 8th day there son was to be circumcised and they were to name him Zechariah which would be after her husband. It was custom back then to name the child after a family member. If it wasn't the father then someone else in the family. So, everyone thought for sure that is what his name would be. Then in vs. 60 Elizabeth speaks up and says, "No! He is to be called John." Vs. 61 goes on to say that there is no one in the family who has that name. Vs. 62 Zechariah's family talked to him in Gestures. They did this because Zechariah could not speak anymore (When the angel Gabriel came to him and said that he would father Elizabeth's child he did not believe this). They thought FOR SURE she was only saying this and he did not know what she said. Well, then in vs. 63 Zechariah is asked to write his child's name on a tablet and he puts, "His name is John". So, the story continues on that after he proclaims his name to be John..God opened his mouth and words came out. He sang joyful songs unto the Lord.
You see before Elizabeth ever had her child God spoke to her and said that they are to name there child John.
As I continued to listen to this sermon a great joy came over me. Not, only did Zechariah and Elizabeth choose to listen to God and HIS will but, we did too with Joshua. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to go against "CUSTOMS" but, they did. At that moment I just pictured my little man and his referral name Dylan Josue and then BOOM that is when it hit me. Michael and I had just kind of started seeing each other a little bit (Dec. '98). Our "dates" were spent with the kids..I'm sure your thinking FUN huh. :) Well, it just so happened that we didn't have our kids with us one night for a couple hours however, we did a friend Amy there. Why Amy was there I honestly don't remember but, we were driving around for a little bit. While we were gone Michael sees this huge birthday billboard and says huh it's
Dilan's (long I but, spelled Dylan) Griggs 7th birthday. I said what..no that says Dylan (such as Delyn). We just both laugh about it. So, HEY...Do you see it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? The miss pronounced name that we laughed about over 10 years ago IS the name of our son. Isn't that just AMAZING?!?!? We have ALWAYS known that Joshua was hand chosen by God not just because he is a PERFECT fit but also because of the whole Joshua thing but, now this WOW!!!! So, we now have Joshua (which we chose BEFORE his referral then received it...Josue in English is Joshua), Michael (which is solely named after daddy) and now his other middle name Dylan (which was NOT only the name from his birth mother but, our own little FUNNY together).
Man, I've always thought that we had been waiting for Joshua for several years but, God knows that it's been a desire my whole life (my brother is adopted) and now I see that even over 10 years ago HE had started the process then. He KNEW that one day we would get married and HE knew that one day we would follow his will for our lives.
Geez, sorry I didn't mean to go on and on. But, for those of you that know me my stories are NEVER short. :) Oh, and another little tidbit I learned today at church and YES I am the geek that even looked it up. Did you know that there is a blank page in your bible from where Malachi end and Matthew begins? I sure didn't. It is in there because God didn't speak for 400 years.
